Final Year Project
Project Title
Understanding Parents/Guardians Experiences & Challenges in Accessing Early Childhood Education for ASD Children in Karachi
Description
This project aims to understand parents' perspectives on the education facilities available for children with ASD in Karachi. Parents whose child(ren) are clinically diagnosed with ASD were interviewed to study their experiences with and perception of schooling, including therapies, schooling, tuition, or a combination of these elements. To achieve this, apart from one-on-one interviews, I engaged in informal and formal conversations with parents using Facebook groups specifically created for ASD children and their families. Lastly, the paper highlights and examines the gap between the increasing cases of ASD and the lack of educational resources available, focusing on the experiences of parents and guardians in Karachi. The paper concludes with recommendations identified by the parents and guardians for improving early childhood education services for students with ASD in Karachi.
